Vietnamese Shrimp Exports Reach USD 3.7 Billion as Market Mix Shifts

VASEP reported on 18 October 2026 that Vietnam’s shrimp exports reached USD 3.7 billion in the first nine months of 2026, up 11% year on year — though momentum has cooled from the 14% growth recorded over the first half. September came in at USD 467.9 million, up 4% year on year but slightly below August.

The headline figure hides a significant shift in market mix. Shipments to China approached USD 1.2 billion, up 37%, and now account for 33% of total export value; including Hong Kong the figure reaches USD 1.3 billion, up 35%. Over the same period exports to the United States fell 15% to USD 498 million, with September alone down 32%, while the EU declined 4.9% to USD 406.4 million. Japan rose 6.4% to USD 440.9 million, and the CPTPP bloc passed USD 1 billion, up 10.2%.

For exporters, the practical read is that buyer concentration is moving east, and that order patterns in the final quarter are unlikely to mirror the first half.
